My plans so far.
Originally, I was going to put the novel I've been writing for almost two years, NEARLY HUMAN, out as an ebook. I have the cover art ready to go. But the book itself is going through some last minute revisions.
Turns out turning the book from 1st person to 3rd person isn't just a simple matter of changing pronouns...
So instead, either FREEDY FILKINS, INTERNATIONAL JEWEL THIEF, will go up first or the novel I wrote a while back, DEVILTREE. Both of which are complete. I'm getting original art done on FREEDY and have an original photo-shopped cover to DEVILTREE (can photo-shop ever be called original?).
Technology is as much a challenge for me as writing the actual books. So I'm working my way through those problems.
With any luck, the three books will be up on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and others before spring.
I'm also hoping to have my three published novels, STAR AXE, SNOWCASTLES AND ICETOWERS available on this site for free. Not sure about that.
Then, I'm plunging into my LORE world of fantasy, the first book of which is THE RELUCTANT WIZARD.
Writing NEARLY HUMAN has taught me what to do and what not to do -- or more to the point, has reminded me of what to do and what not to do. It's been both a learning and relearning process.
The biggest change for me from the old fashioned way I used to write -- is that I'm now convinced I need -- if not an outline -- at least a well thought out framework in which to write my books. I tend to write myself in corners, and it's hellish hard to have to go back and rewrite every thing from the beginning because I didn't think it through.
I love writing the first draft. I love discovering through writing where the story is going, who the characters are, the back story. But I feel like I can't afford to do that anymore. Not without a lot of thought first.
So my next challenge is to totally map out the LORE world. The back story, the geography, the people, the history, the myths, the names, and anything else the will make the world feel real.
I'm thinking I'll have more than one book ready before I put up the first book. So this will take a little time. I'll just keep coming here and talking about where I am in the process.
I hope some of you will find the process interesting.
